My Pick for 2013

We still may have to suffer through winter – wool, Wellies and all – but the sun is shining on Zinke Swim 2013. If the brandʼs debut swim collection called on the swinginʼ times of the sixties, the sophomore collection from designing sisters Jessie Zinke + Arin Robinson taps into the easy femininity and carefree elegance of the seventies with styles that will “stun at the pool, on the beach and beyond.”Zinkeʼs collection of bustier tops, hipsters, string bikinis and one-pieces reads like a ʻbest-ofʼ list for the indie label. Seasonal favorites such as the Starboard, Electric Eel and Kristen return alongside new must haves; the Penelope (halter one-piece with ruffle waist detail), Katie (cropped bustier + cheeky bottoms) and Emmi (reversible bikini). The seasonʼs palette, a summery mix of sunrise coral, ocean blue, radiant orchid and lobster red, is directly inspired by lead designer, Jessie Zinkeʼs favorite hues. “Iʼm a sucker for mixing orange with lilac. Thereʼs an iteration of that combo in each of our collections,” said Zinke. Itʼs part country club, part bohemian and completely feminine, thanks to ruffled onepieces + bikini tops, barely-there ruched bottoms and sweet necklines. Yet, the duo has a knack for balancing thatfemininity with edge, and this swim season proves no different.Modern accents pop up in neon piping (Katie bustier), dramatic cutouts (Stella one-piece) and racerbacks. Even Zinkeʼs signature chevron got a graphic update. The best-loved pattern is larger, brighter and cleaner for Resort ʼ13. Zinkeʼs versatility is present too, in swimsuit necklines that can be worn three ways, a collection of mixing and matching separates and reversible suits. xoxo
