While on a trip to Peru, university friends and Piola entrepreneurs Josh, Antoine, Quentin and Augustin met a group of men working in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, extracting raw latex from the Pará tree to be transformed into a rubber leaf. This gave them a bright idea. Why not use this process to create a new fashion accessory that's both chic and sustainable? They partnered with the UN Organisation and the WWF to set up a fair-trade development project, giving them the ability to buy these rubber leaves directly from 33 producers - as well as establishing a similar relationship with cotton traders in southern Peru.Project Piola uses these materials to create fashionable shoes, designed by Eugene Riconneaus (visit eugene I love these black sneakers, lined with luxurious alpaca fur. Eco-chic indeed!riconneaus.com/en), whilst providing workers with fair wages and maintaining the rainforest habitat. To ensure the success of Piola footwear, they have launched a Kickstarter page with a target of $60,000. Help raise funds and show your support here.
